Tom Zbikowski released by Colts, according to report

The veteran safety spent just one season in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Colts released safety Tom Zbikowski on Friday, according to a report from Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. The team is on the hook for $733,333 but saves nearly $800,000 off his 2013 base salary of $1.5 million. The Colts also were due to pay him $2.025 million in 2014.

Zbikowski was part of a Colts squad that finished 2012 ranked 12th in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game and 26th in total defense. He started 11 games and finished the year with 38 tackles, both of which stand as career highs. Prior to that, he spent four years with Baltimore, where he appeared in 53 games and made 14 starts. Over the course of his five-year career, he has racked up 126 tackles and three interceptions.

Potential landing spots for Zbikowski are unknown at this point.
