NFL free agency roundup: Connor Barwin signs, Patriots have busy Friday

Four days into the NFL free agency period, and the news hasn’t slowed down. Among Friday’s highlights: Connor Barwin signs with the Eagles and the Patriots make moves.

We’re on Day 4 of the NFL free agency, but the rumors and news haven’t stopped pouring in. It can be overwhelming to keep track of everything that’s happening. Luckily, SB Nation has been been keeping several eyes peeled so you don’t have to miss anything. Here is the latest:

Outside linebacker Connor Barwin was once thought of as one of the Houston Texans' top free agent priorities. He will be leaving Houston to join the Philadelphia Eagles on a six-year, $36 million contract, however. Despite a disappointing 2012 season, Barwin is expected to give the Eagles a much-needed pass-rushing boost.

The New England Patriots signed former Seattle Seahawks speedster Leon Washington, who was little-used as a running back but very productive as a kick returner. Washington could play a larger offensive role with the Pats, who lost Danny Woodhead to the San Diego Chargers on Friday.

Speaking of the Seahawks, they continued to stockpile pass rushers Friday by signing former Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive end Michael Bennett to a one-year contract. Bennett came into his own as a starter last season, amassing nine sacks.

The Patriots were incredibly busy Friday. They also signed Buffalo Bills wide receiver Donald Jones to give them a potential outside threat at wide receiver. New England also shored up its secondary by agreeing in principle to a four-year deal with Kyle Arrington. The Patriots may not be done: They also hosted John Abraham and Dwight Freeney for visits.

Elsewhere in the NFC West, the Arizona Cardinals added Jasper Brinkley to shore up the middle of the defense. The Cards have been very busy, along with the rest of the division, this week, also adding Rashard Mendenhall, Lorenzo Alexander and Josh Cribbs.

Tight ends had a busy day. Dustin Keller was at one point hoping for a long-term deal from the New York Jets. Instead, he had to settle for a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins on Friday. Meanwhile, Tony Gonzalez will be making $14 million over the next two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. Interest for former Baltimore Ravens' tight end Dennis Pitta is reportedly heating up, despite a second-round restricted free agent tender.

The Jets offense received some good news Friday, adding former Raiders running back Mike Goodson on a three-year contract. The Jets may also have a new quarterback soon: Kevin Kolb was officially designated for release Friday. The Raiders countered the loss of Goodson by shoring up their defense with the addition of Chicago Bears linebacker Nick Roach.

Left tackle Jake Long may have had the most interesting day among free agents still waiting to be signed. The St. Louis Rams have long been the rumored favorite to land long, but he left St. Louis on Friday without a contract. Now, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly making a strong push to bring their 2008 No. 1 overall draft pick back into the fold.

Finally, the Denver Broncos and defensive end Elvis Dumevil continue to be at odds over how to restructure his contract. General manager John Elway called Dumervil's current contract "out of whack," and implored the pass rusher to come to an agreement before the deadline.

Update: Since this story published, the Dumervil saga has gotten weird. He agreed to a pay cut, but the signed contract came in four minutes after the deadline leading to his release. More here.
