Antoine Cason is a member of the Arizona Cardinals, as the former-San Diego Chargers first round pick agreed to a one-year deal to play cornerback with the team, according to a report from Kent Somers of AZCentral.com. Cason is expected to fill the void left by Greg Toler's departure to play for the Indianapolis Colts.
Antoine Cason signs 1-year deal with Cardinals
Cason nabbed at least a pair of interceptions in each of his five seasons with the Chargers.
The signing will be a homecoming of sorts for Cason who was an All-American with the Arizona Wildcats and was named the winner of the 2007 Jim Thorpe Award. In the 2008 NFL Draft, Cason was selected by the Chargers with the 27th overall selection in the first round.
In five seasons with the Chargers, Cason played in all 80 games, but didn’t take over as a starter for the team until 2010. He accumulated a total of 12 interceptions during his time with the Chargers, nabbing at least a pair of picks in each season.
With the Cardinals, Cason is expected to be the starting cornerback opposite former-first round pick Patrick Peterson on a pass defense that finished 2012 with the fifth fewest passing yards allowed.
