Elvis Dumervil rumors: Broncos’ future ‘unclear’ for defensive end

Following one of the oddest releases in NFL history, Denver is uncertain whether it will bring back Elvis Dumervil.

After losing defensive end Elvis Dumervil in what can only be called "FaxGate," the Denver Broncos are still trying to decide what the best course of action is regarding the situation, according to Mike Klis.

Dumervil was set to make $12 million before general manager John Elway demanded he take a pay cut down to $8 million or be cut. Dumervil obliged but the paperwork was faxed through a few minutes late, resulting in the Broncos taking a $13.6 million cap hit and Dumervil’s agent, Marty Magid, being fired.

Dumervil has since hired Tom Condon to be his new agent, the same man who represents other stars such as Peyton Manning and Drew Brees.

Now, Denver’s brass is trying to figure whether it wants and can afford its pass-rushing star, or if the best idea is to cut losses and let him walk. Dumervil has been a force of nature, racking up 17, 9.5 and 11 sacks in his three seasons respectively.

Many teams are certainly interested in Dumervil, who has scheme versatility as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 or an end in a 4-3 setup. He could even wind up in the AFC West with a team like the Oakland Raiders, who desperately need help.

Other teams to keep an eye on should Dumervil walk would be the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.
