D.J. Williams signs with Bears, according to report

The Bears potentially found their replacement for Brian Urlacher on Friday, signing beleaguered Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams to a one-year contract.

The Chicago Bears may have found their replacement for Brian Urlacher on Friday, signing former Denver Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams to a one-year contract, according to the Chicago Tribune. Williams is coming off a troubled season in which he faced two suspensions -- six games for violating the league's performance enhancing policy and three games for a DUI arrest.

Williams, 30, is four years younger than Urlacher, and comes much cheaper than the Hall of Famer likely would have. According to the Tribune, Williams’ base contract is $900,000, none of it guaranteed in case the linebacker carries his off-field baggage to Chicago. If Williams hits all of his workout and roster bonuses, he can earn up to $1.75 million next season.

Williams had just 14 tackles last season in seven game appearances, but he has been very productive in the past. He had 90 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles starting 13 games for the Broncos in 2011. He had at least 119 tackles in each of his two seasons prior.
