Osi Umenyiora wants to play for Falcons

Umenyiora has 75 career sacks, and finished with six sacks for the Giants in 2012.

The Atlanta Falcons are looking to add pass rushers, and two-time Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora is hopeful that he can be one to oblige. Speaking with Atlanta's 92.9 The Game co-hosts Jamie Dukes and Chuck Smith about the possibility of joining the NFC South team, Umenyiora said:

“New York fans definitely expect a lot out of you because of their history. There was nothing better than to be able to win there. The only thing I can think of that would be better than being able to win in New York would be to be able to win here in Atlanta. We’ll see how that plays out. Hopefully, it works out in a positive direction.”

Umenyiora, 31, has 75 career sacks, but played in a reserve role in 2012 behind Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul. He finished the season with six sacks for the New York Giants, tied for his lowest total since his rookie season. However, that would've been the second-most sacks for the Falcons in 2012, as they've struggled to find a pass rusher other than John Abraham.

Abraham, 34, is testing the free-agent waters, but even if he returns, it would be wise for the Falcons to look for an alternative to the aging pass rusher.
