Free agent tight end Fred Davis is visiting with the New York Jets on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Central.
Fred Davis rumors: Tight end to visit Jets
It appears Davis might not go back to Washington after his tour of the NFL this offseason.
Davis has been quite the hot commodity on the free agent market in what is a very soft tight end class. Davis has already been courted by the Buffalo Bills, and the Cleveland Browns also expressed their interest in him. All this while he is supposedly in negotiations with Washington to keep him in the nation's capital.
Now, Davis is looking into the bright lights of New York as a possible landing spot after the Jets watched Dustin Keller walk out the door to sign with the Miami Dolphins.
Despite mediocre numbers, including a flat-out down year in 2012, Davis is still drawing a lot of attention because the league is moving toward tight ends in the passing game thanks to Bill Belichick.
Last season, Davis caught only 24 passes for 325 yards and never found the endzone. His best season came the year before, with 59 catches, 796 yards and a trio of touchdowns.
Considering Jared Cook, Tony Gonzalez, and Brandon Myers have all been signed, Davis remains the best tight end option available before the draft.
