NFL free agent tracker: Cowboys will sign Will Allen, according to report

The safety started seven games for the Steelers in 2012 and finished the year with 31 tackles and three passes defended.

After releasing Gerald Sensabaugh earlier in the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys will look to try to fill the void at safety by signing former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Will Allen, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Allen, 30, was a fourth-round selection of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2004 NFL Draft and slowly worked his way into the starting lineup, serving as the team's starting safety in all 16 games in 2006. He only started in two more games over the next three seasons as he played in a reserve role for the team before signing with the Steelers on a three-year, $4.4 million contract in 2010.

It wasn't until his third season with the Steelers that he cracked the starting lineup, as he took over for Ryan Mundy in October 2012 when Mundy was benched.

In nine seasons and 130 career games, Allen has four interceptions, 11 passes defended and three forced fumbles.
