Jaguars rumors: Daryl Smith not expected back in Jacksonville

It appears the Jaguars are ready to move on without one of their best players of the last decade.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are moving in a new, youthful direction under first-year head coach Gus Bradley, and it appears one of the changes will be letting linebacker Daryl Smith play elsewhere.

According to jacksonville.com, it’s likely that Smith, who is currently a free agent, will sign with another team. At 31 years old, Smith isn’t part of the long-term plans that Bradley has in mind, making him expendable.

Smith has been one of the most consistently underrated players in football for quite some time, putting up excellent numbers while toiling in obscurity. A nine-year veteran, Smith has eclipsed 100 tackles twice and played at least 14 games every season except 2012, when he only played two due to a groin injury.

Since he can play in the middle for either a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme or on the outside in a 4-3, Smith makes sense for multiple teams including the St. Louis Rams, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.
