Dolphins rumors: Eric Winston still on Miami’s radar

Winston was released for salary cap reasons by both the Texans in 2012 and the Chiefs in 2013.

The Miami Dolphins are looking to sign free agent offensive tackle Eric Winston, just as long as he's willing to take a short-term deal that's not worth "huge money," according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. Obviously, Winston might not be very willing.

Winston, 29, received a four-year deal worth $22 million from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, but was released in a move to save salary cap space after the team finished with a 2-14 record in 2012. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Winston was the starting right tackle for the Houston Texans for five seasons, earning a five-year, $30-million extension in September 2008.

A zone-blocking offensive tackle that was selected in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft, Winston has been a durable player, starting 16 games in each of the last six seasons. If signed by the Dolphins, Winston would presumably take over at right tackle, while 2012 second-round pick, Jonathan Martin, would slide over to the left side to take over for the departed Jake Long.
