On Wednesday, there are pro days all over the country for young players hoping to find a career in the National Football League.
2013 College Pro Day Schedule: Pitt, Mississippi State, USF and others host NFL teams
On a day when no elite prospects are showcasing their skills, a host of sleepers are on the field at various schools.
A bevy of schools are showing off their best athletes including Alabama A&M, Eastern Washington, Kent State, Mississippi State, North Alabama, Northern Arizona, Pittsburgh and South Florida.
The best prospect from all of these schools is cornerback Johnthan Banks from the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Banks has been talked about as the second-best corner in some circles, behind Dee Milliner of the Alabama Crimson Tide. For the Bulldogs cornerbacks, Wednesday's workout hinges largely on his 40 time. At the Combine, Banks ran a disappointing 4.59 and 4.64, numbers that do not line up with first-round expectations.
Banks’ fellow Mississippi State corner Darius Slay, on the other hand, ran a 4.36 40 at the Combine, cementing his status as a second day pick, probably in the second round. He needs to show that his aggressive tendencies can be checked. If he does that, the talk is that Slay could end up being picked ahead of his teammate.
Banks is thought of as a first-round pick or, at worst, an early second-round selection. The Bulldogs also have defensive tackle Josh Boyd, who is a third day player at best.
Pittsburgh Panthers running back Ray Graham is going to be a mid-round pick by all indications, giving an NFL team a bigger back who can push the pile in short yardage situations.
The South Florida Bulls have defensive tackle Cory Grissom to show off. Grissom has shown the ability to flash in the trenches, making him a late round sleeper.
