2013 NFL free agency: LeGarrette Blount re-signs with Buccaneers, per report

Tampa Bay and LeGarrette Blount agree to keep the running back in town.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and reserve running back LeGarrette Blount have agreed on a one-year, $1.75 million contract, according to Joel Corry of the National Football Post.

With the re-signing, Tampa Bay has locked up a back-up for starter Doug Martin, who burst onto the scene last year as a rookie with 1,454 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

Blount was a restricted free agent that the Buccaneers could have tendered or just shown the door, but instead the team and player found middle ground. For Tampa, the signing represents some stability, while Blount gets paid immediately and doesn’t have to wonder how his stock will be in a strong free agent running back class.

In 2010, Blount came in as an undrafted rookie and ran for 1,007 yards and five yards per carry. However, his numbers dipped in 2011, amassing 781 yards on 4.2 YPC.

Last season, Blount only had 41 carries for 151 yards, barely seeing any time behind Martin.
