Anquan Boldin contract: Ravens WR won’t restructure, preparing for free agency

So much for retiring as a Raven.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin has rejected the team's offer to restructure his contract and is preparing to hit the open market, according to Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

Boldin had previously claimed he would retire before joining another team, but something must have changed. The 32-year-old wide receiver is entering the final season of his four-year contract and is due a $6 million salary in 2013. But USA Today reports that Boldin won’t take a pay cut to help the Ravens get under the salary cap.

After signing quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco to a huge contract, the Ravens are somewhat strapped for cap space. Boldin's scheduled cap hit for the upcoming season is just more than $7.5 million. Boldin, a 10-year veteran, had four touchdowns in the postseason and is a big piece of the team's current puzzle, despite his age.

The Ravens will release him if the two sides cannot come to an agreement before Tuesday but, contrary to what he said after the Super Bowl, Boldin won’t retire and is prepared to take his talents elsewhere.
