Saints re-sign Junior Galette to 3-year deal

The Saints have brought back one of their best pass rushers, but more help is needed to improve the unit.

The New Orleans Saints have come to terms on a three-year contract agreement with restricted free agent defensive end Junior Galette, according to Nakia Hogan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Galette is coming off a career-high five sacks in 2012, and the team seems to envision him as a fit for its new 3-4 defense. Entering his fourth season with the Saints, Galette is expected to make the transition to outside linebacker in the team’s new scheme, given his 6’2, 258-pound frame.

The Saints have been linked to pass rushers throughout the offseason, and the new defensive scheme has added more fuel to the fire. Galette is one of the few promising prospects on the roster, and the outside linebacker position could be in play for the team with the No. 15 pick in the first round.

The pass rush is still an area of concern, but the signing of Galette is a start for New Orleans. In SB Nation’s latest mock draft, Dan Kadar pegged Jamie Collins of Southern Mississippi to the Saints with the No. 15 pick in the first round.
