Robert Griffin III injury: Redskins QB should resume running next week

Robert Griffin III is scheduled to resume running next week, according to his father.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is expected to resume running next week, The Washington Post reported on Monday. The news comes from Griffin's father, who has been especially vocal in the past regarding his son.

Griffin tore his ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee during a Jan. 6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs. He had surgery three days later, but his recovery and rehabilitation have mostly been unknown throughout the offseason, until now.

According to his father, Griffin has been running in the pool and doing some work on the treadmill, which means medical clearance for full running on the field is right around the corner. Griffin has repeatedly been pegged as “ahead of schedule,” which could mean that he’ll be ready for the 2013 season.

Getting him back at full strength would be huge for the Redskins, who went from having a top pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to being a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs last season. The NFC East is a division that they could rule for some time with a healthy Griffin at the helm, and any progress on his recovery is good news for the team.
