NFL free agent tracker: Cardinals sign guard Chilo Rachal
Chilo Rachal is headed back to the NFC West after signing with the Arizona Cardinals.
Rachal heads to Arizona after one season with the Chicago Bears. He started eight games for the Bears last season before leaving the team for personal reasons. The 27-year-old was originally a second-round pick of San Francisco. He spent four seasons with the 49ers before leaving via free agency.
In Arizona, Rachal will join a Cardinals offensive line that had issues last season. At the least, Rachal should provide depth, and he has experience at both left and right guard. Daryn Colledge started at left guard for the Cardinals last season while Adam Snyder played the majority of the snaps at right guard.
Whether Rachal is an upgrade remains to be seen. According to Pro Football Focus, Rachal struggled last season. He compiled a minus-12.1 PFF rating, with the majority of his issues coming as a run blocker. Rachal was also flagged for eight penalties in eight games last season.
