Darrius Heyward-Bey swayed by chance to work with Andrew Luck

New Indianapolis Colts receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was a sought off free agent who made his decision based mainly on one thing -- luck. That is, Andrew Luck to be exact.

The ex-Oakland Raiders first-round pick signed with Indianapolis because he feels a ton of confidence in the second-year quarterback out of Stanford, according to the Indianapolis Star. Luck took over a 2-14 team and immediately guided it to the playoffs, where it fell to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens.

This among other things led Heyward-Bey to the Midwest, according to the Indy Star:

"You just look at the roster, you’ve got Andrew Luck, in my opinion the best young quarterback out there," said Heyward-Bey, 26. "You’ve got a veteran in (wide receiver) Reggie Wayne. You’ve got a former teammate of mine with Samson (Satele) at center; just a lot of pieces and you have some young players making plays out there. Just being a part of something like that, I think it could be great."

Heyward-Bey feels he can bring another dimension to the passing attack after speedster Donnie Avery departed via free agency for the Kansas City Chiefs. With Wayne on the other side of the field and Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener holding down the tight end spots, the passing attack could be a dangerous one heading into 2013.

Last year, Heyward-Bey caught 41 passes for 606 yards and five touchdowns. His best season was in 2011, when he hauled in 64 receptions for 975 yards.
