Wes Welker says contract issues were ‘unfortunate part of the business’
The new Broncos wide receiver knows contracts aren’t always pretty business.

Despite being one of the most productive receivers in the last four seasons, Welker could never secure a long-term deal with the New England Patriots, leading to animosity and ultimately his departure.
The newest member of the Denver Broncos receiving corps, Welker says he doesn't hold anything against New England and he understands that it's all part of the deal, according to NFL.com:
“No, I don’t think so. A lot of it is just business,” Welker said Wednesday. “Though, it’s kind of the unfortunate part of the business, it is what it is. You try and find what works for you, as far as financially and as a player and everything else.
Most people expected Welker to either be franchise-tagged or re-signed when the tag wasn’t applied, but it never came to pass. Exactly what fell apart in trying to find common ground is still unknown, with Patriots owner Robert Kraft blaming Welker’s representatives and them blaming a lack of negotiations on New England.
Ultimately, Welker ended up in the Mile High City, signing a two-year, $12 million contract to play ball with Peyton Manning. Not a bad backup plan to Tom Brady.
