Who knew that Jay-Z would become a huge success in the sports world?
Victor Cruz linked with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation through CAA representation
Victor Cruz and Jay-Z certainly seem to be a new power couple in the Big Apple.
The rapper turned incredibly successful business man has been extending his tentacles as of late, heading up a new sports agency, Roc Nation.
The company made headlines on Tuesday when it was announced that New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano fired super-agent Scott Boras to sign with Roc Nation. Now, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is being linked to the mogul, according to USA Today.
Cruz fired his agent last season and hired Tom Condon, who is with Creative Artists Agency, a business associated with Roc Nation. Currently, Cruz is a restricted free agent who has had a first-round tender placed on him.
New York desperately wants to keep Cruz, no player more than Eli Manning.
Any team in the league can offer Cruz a contract, but the Giants would have the right to match. Should they decline to match, Cruz would then go to the team offering a contract while New York would receive a first-round pick for the upcoming draft.
The idea of Jay-Z and Cruz being business partners has been on the table for a while. Cruz was asked about the possibility of the two joining forces after a game in October, according to USA Today, and said the following:
“I’d rather keep that under wraps. I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag just yet.” Asked if he’d provide any clarity soon, Cruz said, “We’ll see in the upcoming weeks what happens.”
If Cruz is indeed working with Roc Nation, this would be a great sign for the Giants. It’s obvious that the company would like to launch its name with star players in the Big Apple, starting with Cano and moving onto Cruz.
Of course, Jay-Z is a Brooklyn native and part owner of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, so it makes all the sense in the world to keep his star clients in the biggest market around.
