Washington Redskins re-sign Rex Grossman, according to report

Rex Grossman is returning to patrol the sidelines for another season in Washington.

Quarterback Rex Grossman has re-signed with the Washington Redskins, according to Pro Football Talk. Grossman has spent the past three seasons in Washington and served as the third-string quarterback behind rookies Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins in 2012.

That followed a 2011 season in which Grossman started 13 games. In that time, he completed 58 percent of his passes for 3,151 yards, 16 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He did not throw a pass last season.

Grossman enters his 11th NFL season in 2013. He has served primarily as a backup throughout his career, but Mike Jones of the Washington Post confirms the former Florida quarterback is excited about another year with the Redskins:

Grossman may not be a shoe-in to return as the emergency quarterback in 2013 for the Redskins. Washington may be close to signing former West Virginia and Miami Dolphins quarterback Pat White, who would be much more of a fit for the read-option portion of the team’s offense.
