Jets reportedly had ‘conversations’ with free agent WR Ramses Barden

New York needs to upgrade its wide receivers corps, and free agent Ramses Barden is still available.

The New York Jets had talks with free agent wide receiver Ramses Barden, according to USA Today's Mike Garafolo. Jets general manager John Idzik said Tuesday the team isn't done in free agency, so Barden could still be an option for New York.

Aside from the quarterback position, wide receivers were the biggest problem for the Jets in 2012. Jeremy Kerley led New York with 56 receptions and 827 yards, and his two touchdown catches tied for third-most on the team -- Jeff Cumberland and Stephen Hill both had three touchdown receptions. Aside from Kerley, no Jet had more than 29 catches or 359 yards.

Considering the Jets' struggles at receiver, it's surprising that New York didn't select a wideout in the NFL Draft or add a big-name free agent. The team did sign undrafted receivers Zach Rogers, Ryan Spadola, K.J. Stroud and Antavious Wilson, but none of those players should be counted on to make an immediate impact.

Even if the Jets acquire Barden, it wouldn't be seen as much of an upgrade. He has played four seasons with the New York Giants and appeared in just 29 games. Over the course of his career, Barden has 29 catches for 394 yards. In 2012, he caught 14 passes for 220 yards.
