Seahawks rumors: Tyler Thigpen, Matt Leinart among 4 quarterbacks to work out

With Matt Flynn shipped off to Oakland, Seattle is in need of a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson. Four passers will be working out for the Seahawks this week.

The Seattle Seahawks are working out four quarterbacks this week, including Tyler Thigpen, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn and Seneca Wallace. All four passers will take part in a two-day visit with the team, according to Chris Wesseling of Around the League.

Russell Wilson and recently signed Josh Portis are the only quarterbacks currently on the Seahawks roster. The group of four coming in to workout will all battle to be Wilson's primary backup.

Leinart may be a step ahead initially based on his ties to Pete Carroll. They won two national championships together in 2003 and 2004 at USC. Leinart’s pro career hasn’t produced much, though. Seattle would mark his fourth team since entering the league in 2006.

Wallace was drafted by the Seahawks in 2003. He spent seven years with the team until Carroll took over and traded him in 2010. Quinn became a starter for the Chiefs last year after Matt Cassel suffered a concussion. He hasn't drawn much interest on the free agent market this offseason.

Thigpen is an intriguing prospect for Seattle. As Wesseling points out, he ran an option offense in college and gained experience in the pistol during his brief tenure with the Chiefs. Thigpen’s mobility is his best feature for the Seahawks offense.
