Seahawks sign Brady Quinn, per report

Brady Quinn won the Seahawks backup quarterback competition after beating out three other would-be quarterbacks during a workout on Monday.

The Seattle Seahawks are signing Brady Quinn to be their backup quarterback, according to a report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Quinn was one of four quarterbacks who worked out for the Seahawks on Monday. He was reportedly the most impressive of the four, beating out Matt Leinart, Tyler Thigpen and Seneca Wallace. Quinn, who spent last season with the Kansas City Chiefs, will serve as Russell Wilson's backup in Seattle. The Seahawks were in the market for a reserve signal-caller after they traded Matt Flynn to Oakland.

The 28-year-old Quinn is an interesting fit in Seattle. The Seahawks utilized Wilson as both a runner and a passer last season, but Quinn doesn’t appear like an ideal fit for a read-option offense. Thigpen was rumored to be the favorite, due to his experience with the formation, but the Seahawks chose Quinn instead.

Seattle will be Quinn's fourth team in seven years. A former first-round pick, he started 20 games in his career, completing 53.8 percent of his passes while averaging 5.5 yards per attempt. In addition to Wilson and Quinn, Josh Portis rounds out the Seahawks quarterback depth chart.
