Maurice Jones-Drew injury: Jaguars RB is ‘making progress’

The Jaguars’ running back is recovering well from his foot injury.

In an effort to come back from a Lisfranc injury, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is "making progress" in his recovery, per Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

Jones-Drew suffered the injury during Jacksonville's Oct. 21 game against the Oakland Raiders, and he didn't play again during the 2012 season. He had surgery on Dec. 28 to repair the left foot and removed his walking boot in late March. If Jones-Drew's rehab continues as expected, he hopes to be ready for the start of the 2013 season.

The 28-year-old, entering his eighth season in the NFL, is going into a contract year. He’ll need to play well and stay healthy to erase any doubts teams may have when he is trying to find his next contract. In 2012, Jones-Drew compiled a career-low 414 yards and one touchdown.

Before his lost injury season, Jones-Drew had three straight Pro Bowl campaigns. From 2009-11, he totaled 4,321 yards and 28 touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
