After missing a majority of last season due to a foot injury which required Lisfranc surgery, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is out of shape, according to ESPN.com.
Maurice Jones-Drew injury: Jaguars RB out of shape
It has been a tough offseason for the star running back.
Jones-Drew hasn’t showed up for OTAs and is overweight, but believes he can lose the weight in time for training camp, which begins in the last week of July.
Before any Jaguars fans get upset about his lack of attendance, the team told him he could continue to train down in Miami to bring himself back up to speed. In 2012, Jones-Drew was limited to 86 carries and 414 yards before having to shut it down.
In the three prior years, Jones-Drew eclipsed 1,300 yards each time, showing himself to be one of the premier backs in the NFL. Once again, the UCLA product will be expected to take on the main focus of the offense with Blaine Gabbert still starting at quarterback.
Of course, Jones-Drew has also had other issues this offseason. In May, Jones-Drew was accused of punching a security guard at a restaurant. However, no charges have been filed in the alleged altercation.
