Aaron Hernandez investigation: Police complete search of TE’s house

The former University of Florida tight end had his house searched by police in connection with a murder investigation.

On Tuesday night, the police searched New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez's house and came out holding a cardboard box which they took with them upon leaving, according to Sports Illustrated.

Units from the Massachusetts State Police were at Hernandez’s home as part of a homicide investigation after a 27-year-old man was found dead not far from the residence. The man is believed to be familiar with Hernandez. As the Boston Globe’s Greg Bedard reports, the search lasted just over two hours.

Per Sports Illustrated’s story, it’s believed Hernandez is not a suspect, but a rental car registered in his name has become a key piece in the investigation. At this point, no arrests have been made, but according to Bedard, two men left with police from Hernandez’s home.

Only last summer, New England showed their faith in Hernandez and signed him to a five-year/$40 million contract. He responded with his first Pro Bowl nomination in 2012. In his career, Hernandez has caught 18 touchdowns and amassed 1,956 yards on 175 receptions.
