Robert Griffin III injury: Quarterback begins making cuts with no setbacks

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has reportedly began making cuts and hasn’t suffered any setbacks in his rehab.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III recently went through three straight days of "making cuts and changing direction," according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post. Griffin's surgically-repaired right knee responded well, and there were no setbacks, according to the report.

This is the first report of Griffin making cuts or doing any kind of drills of that nature since the quarterback underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his knee on Jan. 9. The injury occurred during a playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, with controversy coming out at the time due to Griffin staying in the game after suffering the injury.

Getting a full range of motion back and that edge on his cuts is perhaps more important for Griffin than any other quarterback in the league. Griffin loves to run the football, putting up 815 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground to go with his 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air.

Griffin has been running for some time now, but due to the amount of force impacted on a single leg when changing direction at speed, he hasn’t been allowed to make cuts. It would stand to reason that Griffin is doing very well in his recovery if he’s being allowed to make cuts; there aren’t too many things out there more grueling on an injured knee.

As noted by SB Nation’s James Dator, Griffin is expected to be ready to go by the start of the regular season. It’s unclear if he’ll participate in training camp, which begins in late July for the Redskins, but these are positive signs.
