The Aaron Hernandez saga took a rather swift turn Wednesday morning as the New England Patriots tight end was arrested by Massachusetts State Police and then, consequently, released by his former team.

The NFL has issued their official statement on the arrest of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. The player was released Wednesday morning following his arrest.

The NFL publishing an official statement commenting on the situation from the league's point of view following Hernandez's release:
“The involvement of an NFL player in a case of this nature is deeply troubling. The Patriots have released Aaron Hernandez, who will have his day in court. At the same time, we should not forget the young man who was the victim in this case and take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy to Odin Lloyd’s family and friends.”
Hernandez is scheduled to be arraigned in Attleboro District Court on afternoon Wednesday. The tight end has been questioned by the authorities in recent days after authorities found the body of Odin Lloyd near his home.
The Patriots wasted little time in making their decision regarding Hernandez's arrest, releasing the 23-year-old shortly afterward. The team released a statement in conjunction with the release that said releasing Hernandez was "simply the right thing to do."
Police searched Hernandez’s property over the last week, looking for evidence related to the case. It is still unknown what evidence police found or what Hernandez was charged with, but that’s expected to be announced after Wednesday’s arraignment.
