Aaron Hernandez investigated for 2012 shooting, per report

Aaron Hernandez is the focus of a case currently in front of a grand jury, and could be charged in connection with a double homicide that occurred in July 2012.

Aaron Hernandez is now the primary focus of a case currently in front of a Suffolk County grand jury, according to Maria Cramer of The Boston Globe. Prosecutors are reportedly making the case that the former New England Patriots tight end should be charged in the homicide of two men on a South End street in July of 2012.

The proceedings, as usual, are being conducted behind closed doors, so the exact potential charge against Hernandez or what evidence is present is unknown at this point. Cramer notes that it appears the investigation is “more narrowly focused on Hernandez” based on the fact that it has made it to a grand jury.

The two victims, Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu were shot early on July 16, 2012, when someone in a sport utility vehicle with Rhode Island license plates pulled up next to their car and began firing. A source who spoke to the The Boston Globe said that the case against Hernandez “appears to be strengthening.”

Hernandez was recently charged with the June 17 killing of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, and is being held without bail at Bristol County House of Corrections. According to the Globe, law enforcement officials believe Hernandez murdered Lloyd because he suspected Lloyd knew something about the South End double homicide.
