Robert Griffin III told reporters Wednesday that he does not expect to play during the preseason for his Washington Redskins. Griffin has been cleared to practice, but won't be rushed back into action by coaches. He is expected to be busy the next few days during training camp, however.

RGIII spoke candidly about how much he will able to participate in Redskins training camp during a press conference Wednesday.

“I’ll do everything as far as individual drills,” Griffin said. “I’ll get to take snaps with the centers, I’ll do drills with the running backs and the wide receivers. I’ll do 7-on-7’s.”

David Roth examines what the return of Robert Griffin III means for Washington, and the NFL. Griffin said that he won’t participate when the Redskins go to 11-on-11 drills, however. At least not right away. He has passed every test administered by his surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, and team doctors, however, and once he passed those tests Griffin knew “there was no need for me to sit around and just watch all of practice.”
“I was pretty confident, but I had to come back and go through a workout with the coaches just so they felt comfortable with it,” Griffin said. “I’m going to be doing that for the next four or five weeks, continually trying to prove that I’m ready to go. I know everyone is going to question me and doubt me, but I understand that’s what you guys are supposed to do.”
As he gets ready for the Redskins' 2013 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Griffin said that one of his biggest hurdles will be managing his emotions. He also said he has a better understanding of how important his long-term health is to helping the Redskins win games.
"If it's the second game of the season and it's 3rd and 4 and I got two yards, I might run out of bounds and slide," Griffin said. "If it's the Super Bowl, I'm going to get those two yards."
