The New England Patriots have received more than 1,000 Aaron Hernandez jerseys for exchange, according to the team's official Twitter account. The team says that the Patriots Pro Shop has received "nearly 1,200 Hernandez jersey exchanges," as of 5 p.m. ET on Saturday.
Patriots exchange more than 1,000 Aaron Hernandez jerseys
Patriots fans took advantage of the Hernandez jersey exchange at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
The jersey exchange is being held at Gillette Stadium and was announced after the Patriots released Hernandez due to the ongoing investigation into the murder of Odin Lloyd, for which Hernandez has been charged.
Any officially licensed Hernandez jersey is eligible to be traded in for a jersey of equal value. According to the Patriots, the most popular replacement jerseys are for quarterback Tom Brady, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, defensive end Chandler Jones and running back Stevan Ridley.
The exchange wrapped up for Saturday, though fans still hoping to get their No. 81 or No. 85 jerseys exchanged will have a final opportunity to do so on Sunday from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Given the size of New England's fan base, it seems likely there will be a large turnout on Sunday, even though Hernandez was the No. 2 tight end on the roster, behind Rob Gronkowski.
