Robert Griffin III: ‘I’m playing Week 1’

Robert Griffin III remains adamant that he will be ready for the Redskins’ season opener against the Eagles on Sept. 9.

Throughout his recovery process, Robert Griffin III has maintained that he will be ready for the Washington Redskins' season opener. On Monday, the quarterback didn't deviate from message, telling Rich Tandler of CSN Washington that "there's no doubt I'm playing Week 1."

Griffin is reportedly increasing his practice activities as he makes his way back from the torn ACL he suffered during last season's NFL Playoffs. He has been participating in 7-on-7 passing drills, and led the offense through 11-on-11 drills during Monday's walkthrough, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer. Griffin is expected to continue taking part in 11-on-11 work during Tuesday's full practice.

Whether Griffin will participate in the Redskins’ preseason is still unclear. Though he may be a full participant in workouts as soon as this week, head coach Mike Shanahan may be hesitant to expose his quarterback to full contact before it is absolutely necessary to do so.

The Redskins will play their second preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, Aug. 19. Backup QB Kirk Cousins went 6-for-7 passing for 52 yards and a touchdown during the Redskins' 22-21 win over the Tennessee Titans in their preseason opener.
