Von Miller arrested for failure to appear in court, per report

A gun store background check on Miller turned up a warrant for his arrest, which police carried out Sunday. It won’t help as he tries to fight a four-game suspension.

Von Miller was arrested Sunday for failing to appear in court, there having been a warrant for an arrest of the back-to-back Pro Bowler outstanding since January.

Per the Denver Post, Miller’s legal troubles stem from an incident last October, when he was arrested for careless driving, driving without a license, and driving without proof of insurance. He was supposed to show up for a hearing, but did not. When he went to a gun store Sunday, a state-mandated background check for those purchasing a gun or concealed-carry permit revealed the warrant, and police were called to the gun club to arrest the linebacker. He was released the same day on $1,000 bail, as evidenced by the fact that he hasn’t missed any practices.

The Broncos released a statement saying that they will let the legal system work itself out, but of course, this is not Miller’s only extracurricular concern. He faces a four-game suspension for “violation of league policy,” something which could be linked to positive drug tests and violating the league’s substance abuse policy, although it’s also been reported that is not the case. He’s supposed to meet with the league Thursday, and his most recent legal issue likely will not help matters.

Miller is vital to coach John Fox’s defense, which finished fourth in the league thanks to Miller’s franchise record 18.5 sacks. That said, they did go out and get a very solid backup in pass-rusher Shaun Phillips, who can play strongside linebacker as well as defensive end.
