Von Miller, collector attempted to subvert drug testing program, per report

Von Miller’s suspension increase reportedly stems from a failed attempt to switch urine samples from an NFL-sanctioned drug test.

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller and a urine collector were caught in an attempt to undermine the NFL's drug testing program, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

The attempted cheating involved a collector in Miami, who was “star struck” by Miller, according to the report. The collector in question switched Miller’s test with another urine sample. The inaccurate test was noticed by a second collector, who realized that the Broncos’ defender was not present in Miami when the test was supposed to have been taken. The collector who attempted to help Miller cheat on the drug test has been fired.

Per Mortensen and Schefter, the NFL and NFLPA are now looking into changing the process for drug testing procedures. At a meeting, Drug Free Sports suggested a fingerprint technology to the league. The system would be similar to the one used in the new iPhone and make it nearly impossible to switch out specimens, according to the report.

Due to the failed attempt, Miller’s four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s drug testing policy was expanded to six games. The NFL and NFLPA along with Miller’s representatives did not comment on the report.
