Von Miller suspension: Broncos LB excused from practice; appeal date reportedly postponed

Von Miller’s expected suspension appeal on Thursday has apparently been delayed.

Broncos linebacker Von Miller was expected to be in New York City on Thursday to attend an appeals hearing regarding his four-game suspension, but Chris Mortenson is reporting that the hearing has been postponed due to unspecified "complications." The Denver Post's Mike Klis also reports that the formal appeal is not happening Thursday, but Miller is apparently dealing with a suspension-related matter.

Miller received a four-game ban from the NFL in late July for a “violation of league policy,” a term initially interpreted as a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. It has since been reported that the incident was not a positive drug test, but rather an issue of non-compliance with the NFL’s substance abuse program. Miller was placed in the program after testing positive for marijuana during his rookie year.

The two-time Pro Bowler’s absence from practice on Thursday has been confirmed, but his whereabouts and the status of his appeal are as of yet unknown.

The news of the hearing’s reshuffling comes just days after Miller was arrested on a warrant for an outstanding traffic violation. Reports indicate that when the linebacker went to a gun store on Sunday, a state-mandated background check revealed a warrant for his arrest, to which police immediately responded. The warrant is the result of Miller’s arrest last October, when was reportedly charged with careless driving, driving without a license and driving without proof of insurance.
