Von Miller will miss 1 year with next violation

Following his most recent violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, the Broncos linebacker is on the thinnest of ice.

Von Miller's most recent violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy landed him a six-game suspension and placement in Stage 3 of the league's drug program for the remainder of his career. Any additional violations from this point forward will result in a full year ban, according to Ian Rapoport.

Miller, entering his third year with the Broncos, was suspended for the first six games of the 2013 season by the NFL on Tuesday, a penalty resulting from a drug testing incident during the offseason. According to reports, Miller provided a diluted urine sample to officials during testing, raising concerns with sample tampering.

Miller has been in the league’s drug program, which requires random substance tests, since 2011, when he tested positive for marijuana during his rookie season.

According to reports, the linebacker does not plan to appeal the disciplinary action, and will begin serving his suspension during the first week of the regular season. He will be eligible to return after Week 6.
