Robert Griffin III’s return to team drills yet to be determined

After sitting out the Redskins’ preseason game on Thursday night, it seems the star quarterback will continue to be treated with caution heading into the next week of camp practices.

Robert Griffin III may think he's ready for a full return, but the Washington Redskins brass is still being cautious with its star quarterback. After sitting last year's Offensive Rookie of the Year during the Redskins 22-21 preseason win over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, head coach Mike Shanahan announced that no date has been set for Griffin's return to team drills, according to Rich Campbell of the Washington Times.

Griffin has been limited to 7-on-7 drills thus far at Redskins camp, but told reporters earlier this week that he was ready to take part in 11-on-11 full-team drills and was farther along than his coach would admit.

Griffin suffered a torn ACL last season during the Redskins' playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and underwent surgery to repair in on Jan. 9. After taking flak for playing Griffin in that loss despite knowing of the existing knee injury, the team has taken a cautious stance on easing him back in.

The breakout star didn’t get any playing time during the preseason opener, but did handle the coin flip and put together this sweet highlight video.
