NFL fines Ndamukong Suh $100K for Week 1 hit

The NFL fined Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh $100,000 for his low block in Week 1, according to a report.

Update: Suh has been fined $100,000.

The NFL could fine Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh $100,000 for his low block in Week 1, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. Suh was flagged for a low block against the Minnesota Vikings in the second quarter on Sunday. He dove at the legs of Vikings offensive lineman John Sullivan following a Detroit interception.

Sullivan was barely in on the play and Detroit’s position was secure when Suh made the play, as well. Suh has been no stranger to NFL discipline in the past, which is likely why the league is reportedly seeking this large amount for the fine.

Suh earned a $30,000 fine from the NFL for a play in which he kicked Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub last season, which is nearly double the usual amount for such a second offense. Suh was suspended in 2011 for a play in which he stomped on the arm of Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith.

Drawing a fine of $100,000 makes a suspension seem unlikely, but it will be the highest fine Suh has received to date, if the report is accurate.
