Seahawks fans set Guinness World Record for loudest stadium vs. 49ers

The Seahawks made history in Week 2, but it wasn’t for their on-field performance.

The Seattle Seahawks got more than just a win in the standings in Week 2. According to Mike Lindblom of the Seattle Times, Seattle's "12th man" set the Guinness Book of World Records mark for the loudest stadium.

The 136.6 decibels established a new landmark during Sunday night's battle against the 49ers. The previous record of 131.76 was set in Turkey in 2011 during a soccer match between Galatasaray SC and Fenerbahce.

According to a group called "Volume 12," a sack of 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick by Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett caused the stadium to erupt into the record-breaking noise level. A judge from Guinness confirmed that the record had been broken at that time with a level of 131.9. The volume in the stadium got even louder in the third quarter after a goal-line stand by the Seahawks, leading to the record being updated to 136.6 decimals.

The noise apparently helped, too, considering the Seahawks defeated the 49ers 29-3 on Sunday night.
