Aldon Smith arrested for DUI after single-vehicle accident

The standout linebacker is in more legal trouble following an incident early Friday morning.

San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested under suspicion of DUI on Friday morning, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. Smith was taken into custody at 7 a.m. PT and police determined that he was the driver in a single-car accident that did not result in anyone being hurt.

Smith has established himself as a critical part of the 49ers' defense in 2+ seasons of action -- he piled up 14 sacks as a rookie in 2011, then followed that up with 19.5 sacks a season ago, a total that ranked second in the league. His performance in 2012 earned him All-Pro honors and he also made his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Through the first two games of 2013, Smith has 12 tackles, including 3.5 sacks. San Francisco has not yet made a statement on Smith’s situation. The linebacker also was arrested on DUI charges in Miami in Jan. 2012.
