Rashad Johnson injury: Cardinals DB loses part of finger vs. Saints

Johnson suffered a gruesome injury on Sunday.

Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson lost part of his finger while covering a punt, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Somers reports that when Johnson took his glove off, his finger remained inside. Doctors shaved bone on Johnson’s left middle finger to repair it, but the safety is reportedly missing everything above his first knuckle. Even more amazing, however, is that Johnson returned to the game after such a gruesome injury. Dan Wetzel says it well:

As Somers states in his tweets, it is hard to see exactly what happened to Johnson, even when watching the replay from multiple angles.

It is unclear how long Johnson will be out because of this, although right now it is more about getting back to feeling normal after losing part of his finger.

The 27-year-old Johnson has been with the Cardinals for the entirety of his five-year career. He started all three games this year and has 13 tackles. Last season, the former Crimson Tide star had two interceptions, four off the pace from his career-high of six picks back in 2010.
