Aldon Smith could miss 1 month or more for rehab

Aldon Smith could miss one month or more in rehab, according to a 49ers blogger and former drug rehabilitation center worker.

Aldon Smith is on his way to rehab, according to Pro Football Talk. He is on an indefinite leave of absence from the San Francisco 49ers while he attends rehab. According to David Fucillo from SB Nation's 49ers blog Niners Nation, Smith's absence could last one month or more depending on the program he enters. The one-month time frame is based on the expertise of a former rehabilitation center worker and blogger at Bay Area Sports Guy who says that Smith could miss at least 28 to 30 days, if not more.

No one has to report anything official regarding Smith’s potential length of absence, or what kind of treatment he will be receiving. This information is a guideline for the outside linebacker’s potential return. Indications so far suggest that Smith will be miss a significant chunk of the 2013 NFL season.

Smith was arrested for a DUI on Friday after getting into a single-car accident with a tree. He was found with pills and marijuana in his car. Despite the arrest, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Jim Harbaugh decided to let Smith play during Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
