Seahawks vs. Texans 2013: Seattle ‘flipped a switch’ in comeback win over Houston

Our SB Nation writers are sounding off about the Seahawks’ comeback win over the Texans in Week 4.

The Seahawks made a courageous comeback on the road against the Texans, eventually picking up an overtime victory.

The Texans dominated the second quarter of the game and built a sizable lead going into halftime. Following their 20-point onslaught in the first half, however, Houston was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman's interception of Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub for a touchdown capped off the comeback that sent the game to overtime. After several minutes of back-and-forth, the Seahawks were able to kick a field goal for the win and a 4-0 start to the season.

Jacson Bevens of Field Gulls believes the Seahawks’ pass rusher changed the momentum of the game in the second half:

After an opening drive as disappointing as pouring cereal before finding out you're out of milk, Seattle flipped a switch. Gone were the three yard cushions for Texans receivers, as were the five-second pockets for Schaub. Foster and Ben Tate still tabulated 214 yards, but they stopped coming in big, unfettered chunks. The Seahawks bent in the second half, but instead of snapping like balsa wood like they did in the first 30 minutes, they slapped back like over-flexed plexiglass. After a scary injury that left Michael Bennett on a stretcher,* the Seahawks pass rush finally entered the stadium. Chris Clemons, Tony McDaniel, Clinton McDonald, and Cliff Avril all recorded sacks, many of them in huge, knock-em-out-of-field-goal-range situations. The feel of the game shifted in the third quarter, but that shift wasn't represented on the scoreboard. Despite muffling the Texans' attack, Seattle was only able to post three points.

TexansDC of Battle Red Blog is disappointed by the Texans failure to close against the Seahawks:

It's really quite difficult to find the right words for this loss. This 23-20 overtime loss by your Houston Texans to the Seattle Seahawks.

I say this because the Texans were dominant in the first half. They had a 20-3 lead and were manhandling Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. In the second half, Wilson used his mobility to spark some life into Seattle while cornerback Richard Sherman tied the game late in the fourth quarter with a pick-six off of quarterback Matt Schaub.

I could try and paint some positives here. Whitney Mercilus had 2.5 sacks, J.J. Watt was strong and dominant, Schaub tossed for over 300-yards and ended Seattle's Legion of Boom 11-game streak of holding passers under 300 yards, Arian Foster put up 102 rushing yards, and Andre Johnson had nine receptions for 110 yards. All of that is pointless though because of the implosion.

The Seahawks will travel to Indianapolis to face the Colts in Week 5, while the Texans will travel to San Francisco to face the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.
