Tony Sparano hired by Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Lovie Smith is continuing to fill out his staff with another ex-head coach coming aboard.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their new head coach Lovie Smith have hired former Miami Dolphins head coach and New York Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, according to Pro Football Talk.

Sparano is coming in to work under the Buccaneers' new head coach, although Sparano's role is currently unclear. Last season, Sparano worked with the Oakland Raiders under Dennis Allen as an assistant head coach. However, he decided that the time was right to leave after Raiders owner Mark Davis wouldn't give out more than a one-year deal to Sparano.

Smith has already put together the main pieces of his staff, hiring Jeff Tedford away from the University of California to be his offensive coordinator. Smith also brought in former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier to run the defense.

Before coaching the Dolphins for four seasons, Sparano made his bones as an offensive line and tight ends coach. In his four years with Miami, Sparano won an AFC East title but never a playoff game.
