Muhammad Wilkerson suffers a knee injury
New York’s best defensive player left Monday night’s game against Chicago.
Wilkerson stayed down on the field momentarily before being helped off the field by the training staff. He was lunging for Cutler when he collided with teammate Calvin Pace, making for an awkward collision. The severity of the injury is unknown, but Wilkerson was able to limp of the field without assistance.
A serious injury could be a season-changer for the Jets. Wilkerson is not only New York's best defensive player, but one of the better defenders in the league. He's as disruptive as any interior defensive lineman in the league and a key part of the Jets' defense. The combination of Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson gives New York an excellent defensive front.
UPDATE: According to reports after the game, Wilkerson’s knee injury is not believed to be serious.
Rex Ryan through team spokesperson: Wilkerson has a knee injury but it is not believed to be serious. #nyj
