Seahawks WR Ricardo Lockette to undergo procedure after violent collision

Lockette is out for the year after sustaining the injury.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette left Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys on a stretcher after being involved in a huge collision. Lockette was reported to have suffered a concussion, but does have full movement.

Lockette took a big hit from Jeff Heath on special teams while covering a punt. He immediately went down to the ground without moving. He was motionless on the field for several minutes and was surrounded by the medical staff before being lifted onto a stretcher and taken away on the cart.

While being attended to by medical staff, Lockette’s Seattle teammates surrounded him on the field while several Cowboys also came over to check on the situation. Lockette began moving his hands shortly after being loaded onto the cart, even signaling to his teammates while being taken off the field.

Lockette is scheduled to undergo a surgical procedure on Monday. The team released a statement describing the injury and the surgery required:

“Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette will undergo surgery this afternoon at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas to stabilize ligament damage in his neck that he sustained during a collision in Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Lockette has full motion and feeling in all extremities and the team has announced that his prognosis is good. An update on Lockette’s status will be provided following surgery later this afternoon.”

Pete Carroll then said on the radio on that Lockette will not play again this season, but said the team didn’t know if Lockette’s injuries could end his career, via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. But that uncertainty also carries the possibility that the injuries could be career-ending.

Lockette had one catch for three yards before the big hit. He isn’t one of the top receivers on the depth chart. He has three catches for 66 yards and a touchdown on the season. He joined the Seahawks in 2011 and has 21 catches for 448 yards and four touchdowns in his career.
