With Ben Roethlisberger sidelined by a foot sprain, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones will make his second career start Sunday when he faces the Cleveland Browns with Roethlisberger serving as the team's backup, according to ESPN's Britt McHenry.
Landry Jones will start over Ben Roethlisberger for Steelers in Week 10
Ben Roethlisberger is sidelined with a mid-foot sprain.
For the fourth time this season, the Steelers will have to switch starters. Ben Roethlisberger started the first three games, hurt his knee and was replaced by Mike Vick. Vick started the next three games before pulling a hamstring and bringing Landry Jones onto the field for the first time.
Jones started a Week 7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, then returned to the bench as a somewhat-healthy Roethlisberger returned to lose to the Cincinnati Bengals. Jones, though, was called back into action in Week 9, as Roethlisberger sprained his foot late in a 38-35 win over the Oakland Raiders.
At 5-4, the Steelers are out of the NFC North race, thanks to the undefeated Bengals, but they are still very much in the hunt for a Wild Card berth. They need to beat the lowly Browns, though, and Jones will have to do that without Le'Veon Bell, who is out for the season with a knee injury, and with DeAngelo Williams at less than 100 percent due to an ankle problem.
Vick is expected to be inactive for the Steelers on Sunday with Roethlisberger backing up Jones. According to NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala, Roethlisberger is hoping to return after the team’s Week 11 bye, but is the backup for Jones because of the importance of the game for the Steelers.
