Marshawn Lynch, Emmanuel Sanders active for Week 10

Both Lynch and Sanders were declared active for Week 10.

Throughout the season SB Nation medical expert Dr. Ali Mohamadi will provide his insights on the most notable injuries in the NFL landscape and how they might affect game day as well as your fantasy football roster decisions. Here is a look at some key injuries and their impact for Week 10 that’s heavy on wide receivers.

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play despite his ankle injury when Detroit faces the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. This comes despite Megatron being limited in practice and Wednesday and Thursday and missing practice entirely on Friday after suffering the injury two weeks ago in the Lions’ last contest against Kansas City.

Johnson missed three games last season due to an ankle injury, but that was a high ankle sprain, unlike this one. He may use a protective brace to avoid aggravating the sprain Sunday. Range of motion and pain tolerance will be important factors for the star receiver to monitor in pregame warmups and throughout the game.

Another receiver, another ankle injury ... Broncos wideout Emmanuel Sanders missed the entire week of practice due soreness and was considered 50-50, at best, to play Sunday against the Chiefs. Despite suffering the injury midway through the game, he made it through Denver’s entire loss to Indianapolis last week, but he has been dealing with swelling and pain throughout the week. However, after going through pregame workouts, Sanders is now active. He isn’t expected to play as many snaps as usual, though.

Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch has been dealing with an abdominal muscle strain that had his status for Sunday night’s key divisional contest with Arizona very much in doubt. His name popped up on the team’s injury report late this week, and Lynch was officially listed as questionable to play. Fortunately for the Seahawks, Lynch was declared active for the game.

Abdominal strains can be intensely painful when the muscles are stretched and require rest to heal, which can take days to weeks before the soreness completely resolves.

Back on the wide receiver front, Chicago’s Alshon Jeffery has been dealing with a groin injury this week, but he was able to take the field against St. Louis. Despite missing practice on Thursday, Jeffery was back on the field Friday and did not suffer any setbacks. The groin muscles are notoriously prone to aggravation if tested too early, and so Bears fans will want to keep a close eye on Jeffery’s ability to cut and accelerate early in Sunday’s game.

Another ailment prone to re-injury: hamstring strains. Cardinals wide receiver John Brown has been dealing with one of his own, and he was listed as questionable for Sunday night’s matchup with Seattle. His status was up in the air as a result, but he was declared active before kickoff. Brown has been dealing with a hamstring injury on-and-off for much of the season. He suffered a setback in practice Thursday when he felt a twinge in the muscle.
