There have been rumors floating around for months now that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in trading for the Tennessee Titans No. 2 overall pick. So how badly does Chip Kelly want want Marcus Mariota?
Chip Kelly denies that Eagles made ridiculous offer for Marcus Mariota
Chip Kelly reeeeeeally wants Marcus Mariota, but would he have really given up the Eagles’ most promising players?
Well, that’s a subject of debate.
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapport, the Eagles offered two first round picks, a third round pick, defensive end Fletcher Cox, defensive back Brandon Boykin and linebacker Mychal Kendricks. Sam Bradford, who the Eagles recently added through trade, has also been mentioned as part of a potential package.
Kelly denies making the offer, however, telling Philadelphia Magazine that reports of a mother lode offer to the Titans were “false.”
“We didn’t offer any players to anybody,” he said Thursday night. “We didn’t get into any discussions. It was just a really steep price.”
If the treasure trove offer happened, it wasn’t enough. The Titans stood firm and selected Mariota. That doesn’t mean Kelly’s trade dreams are dead, though. Rumor has it that the Titans could still deal Mariota in an Eli Manning-like post pick deal.
Kelly’s been wheeling and dealing like crazy since he took over as the team’s personnel manager, so it’s not exactly shocking that he’s willing to throw all those pieces at a quarterback that he’s clearly infatuated with. But, man, that’s a steep price.
