On Thursday, the New England Patriots made Malcom Brown the final selection in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Later that evening, the Texas defensive tackle told Comcast SportsNet that the reigning Super Bowl champions made the right decision.
Malcom Brown declares himself the best Patriots draft pick ever
The last New England draft choice to express that level of confidence was a quarterback you might have heard about.

“Y’all about to get the best player y’all have ever drafted,” Brown said. “So just be ready for when I touch the field.”
This isn't the first time a Patriots draft pick has declared himself the best draft choice in Patriots history. Back in 2000, sixth-round pick Tom Brady told team owner Robert Kraft that drafting him was "the best decision this organization has ever made." While outrageously confident for a late-round selection, Brady backed up his words by taking New England to six Super Bowls, winning four.
Outperforming Brady for the title of best Patriots draft pick ever won’t be easy, especially as the quarterback is still playing at a high level. However, like Brady, Brown’s conviction comes from seeing so many other players hearing their names called before him.
“It was very anxious,” Brown said, “a very long day, very long process, and I was just waiting to get off the board. I just couldn’t wait. All the [anxiety] was building up and it was all coming down to that. Last pick, last pick of the first round. I was just ready.”
Brown won't overshadow Brady anytime soon, but he does have a chance to make an impact on the Patriots during his rookie year. Veteran nose tackle Vince Wilfork departed New England as a cap casualty, and few players have the size or skill to replace him. Brown expects to be given the chance to earn that spot.
